reality

Climate change is our reality, but it isn't yet widely reflected in the entertainment we produce and consume.

Despite widespread acceptance of anthropogenic climate change, and viewers' desire to see more climate-friendly messages on screen, it may feel difficult to bring up the topic without seeming preachy, didactic, or depressing.

Those kinds of impressions don't encourage positive reception or motivate action, and in order to make the needed changes in our society, climate stories should instead feel motivating, relatable, and entertaining.

The good news is climate change can intersect with nearly every story, and together we can find the seamless and entertaining intersections that, collectively, can help change the narrative on climate change.

Reality of Change

Founded in 2023, Reality of Change operates at the intersection of climate change and unscripted television entertainment. By tapping into working industry knowledge, we work to strengthen relevant awareness and know-how within the industry, facilitate meaningful network-building, and design programs and resources that support climate and sustainability practices in unscripted entertainment both in front of and behind the camera.

ABCs & Tip Sheet

We recently shared the ABCs of Climate Storytelling for unscripted producers, along with advice from the non-profit environmental organization Rare about seamlessly incorporating positive climate behaviors on screen.
