Major Unscripted Producers Announce Sustainability Pledge & Roadmap

Today at the Realscreen Summit in Miami, Reality of Change founder Cyle Zezo shared the outcome of the 2024 Unscripted Sustainability Advisory Committee, which had been convened in 2024 with many of the industry’s top studios and production companies.

Ellis Watamanuk, Sr. Director of Rare’s Entertainment Lab, was also present for the reveal of the groundbreaking sustainability roadmap for the sector, as well as a sustainability pledge developed and endorsed by the more than 30 studios and production companies who participated in the committee.

”Our advisory committee members recognize that the stories we tell, the realities we document, and how we work and engage with our communities, professional and otherwise, are our most impactful tools and most critical hope to promote and prioritize the collective health, safety and sustainable prosperity for all who share this planet,” Zezo stated in a press release.

“No matter where you are, no matter what you do for a living, we can all find ways to help, which is why I am so inspired to collaborate with colleagues in the entertainment industry doing their part,” added Watamanuk.

Today’s announcement is accompanied by new ways for unscripted professionals to get involved with sustainability through their work, including the launch of an Action portal, where producers can request a Starter Kit that comes with the ABCs of Climate Storytelling Tip Sheet and production memo templates they can send to crew and department heads to set a tone of sustainability in production.

The pledge, as well as an overview of the sustainability roadmap for the sector, are also now available publicly through Reality of Change, with the organizations welcoming others who are passionate about sustainability to register their interest in making the commitment.

2024 Advisory Committee members who developed the pledge and roadmap include:
44 Blue Productions, Alfred Street Industries, APG Pictures, Back Roads Entertainment, Blind Nil, Boardwalk Pictures, Common Ground Studios, Critical Content, DAT’s Entertainment, Fremantle North America, Fulwell Entertainment, Intuitive Content, Jolly Octopus Entertainment, Lighthearted Entertainment, Magic Lemonade, Margot Station, MFP Inc, MGM Alternative, Evolution Media (an Amazon MGM Studios Company), Mission Control Media, MorningStar Entertainment, Range Studios, Scout Productions, Inc., Sony Pictures Television’s The Intellectual Property Corporation, Unger Media, Velvet Hammer Media (VHM), Village Roadshow Entertainment Group, Warner Bros.
